Tomb Raider Remakes by Embracer Group

Some new versions of the Tomb Raider may be on the way, if the Embracer Group is any indication. A few weeks ago, The Embracer Group acquired a large number of Western studios and IPs from Square Enix in a rather modest deal. Many rejoiced at the idea as it could mean reviving classic IPs like Deus Ex and allowing them to thrive in a new era of gaming, but nothing concrete has been confirmed. Ahead of the news, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced that a new Tomb Raider is in the works and being developed in Unreal Engine 5. As of now, it’s not generally clear if it will be another reboot or a continuation of the previous trilogy.

It doesn’t look like this will be the only Tomb Raider project in development. at Financial reportThe Embracer Group has taken note of its deal with Square Enix and what that might mean for the company’s future. The Embracer Group has stated that there is a huge level of enthusiasm from fans about the deal and that they see the potential for not only a sequel, but also remakes or reworks of classic games from these popular IP titles. The company also confirmed that it expects to officially close the deal with Square Enix sometime this fall.

“After the end of the quarter, we strengthened our development capabilities and IP portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy Of Kain and other IP addresses. The response is overwhelming and positive. We see great potential not only in the sequels, but also in remasters, remasters, and spin-offs.”

With all that said, it looks like there’s a bright future for all of these franchises at Embracer Group. It will likely be some time before anything materializes, since the deal hasn’t been completed, so Embracer doesn’t have the authority to put anything in development yet. Only time will tell what will happen from that, but it looks like these IP addresses will be in good hands.
